Before selecting forks, the compatibility of the carriage class should be confirmed in accordance with ISO 2328, which defines the height and spacing of the mounting hooks. The classes differ in the distance between the upper and lower hook: 2A/2B - approx. 407 mm, 3A/3B - approx. 508 mm, 4A/4B - approx. 635 mm. The A and B markings refer to the hook construction, while the dimensions remain the same within a given class. The class can be checked by measuring the distance between the upper and lower carriage hooks, reading the forklift truck nameplate or checking the manufacturer’s technical documentation. Correct matching of the fork class to the carriage class is essential for safe installation and use.
Before replacement, the technical condition of the current forks should also be assessed. Forks must be replaced if the thickness of the working section has decreased by around 10% compared with the nominal dimension, if there are cracks in the hook area or at the heel, or if there is permanent deformation or twisting of the profile. Wear of the cross-section causes a real reduction in the forklift truck’s load capacity and may be questioned during a technical inspection.
No. Forks should be replaced in pairs to maintain even load distribution and stability during forklift operation.
In the event of permanent deformation, cracking, twisting or significant cross-section wear. Damaged forks should not continue to be used.
Carriage classes 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B and 4A are designations compliant with ISO 2328, defining the dimensions and type of mounting hooks for forklift forks. In classes 2A and 2B, the distance between the upper and lower hook is approx. 407 mm, while in classes 3A and 3B it is approx. 508 mm, and in classes 4A/4B - approx. 635 mm. The letters A and B indicate the hook construction type. The carriage class must match the fork class to ensure correct and safe installation.
